Black Ice. Fractured Light.
The Black Ice Crackle Plate is the darker counterpart to the Snowflake Crackle series — a deep, high-gloss black glaze mapped with a dense network of fine silver-white crackle lines that catch the light like a frozen lake seen from above. The surface is simultaneously still and alive: the gloss reflects the room around it, while the crackle lines hold a quiet, almost geological complexity beneath.
The crackle effect — known in Chinese ceramic tradition as binglie (ice crackle) — occurs as the glaze and clay body cool at different rates in the kiln, creating tension fractures that cannot be controlled or replicated. On a black ground, the effect is more dramatic than on white: each line reads as a bright silver thread against the dark, making the pattern feel closer to lacquerwork or obsidian than to conventional ceramics.
The profile is shallow and wide, with a clean rim and a smooth, uninterrupted interior. The base is a solid matte black — grounding the drama of the surface with deliberate restraint.
