A Pyramid Lid. A Round Bowl. One Glaze.
A small covered box in meiziging celadon — the pale jade-green glaze of the Song dynasty tradition, here applied to a form that sets a square pyramidal lid against a hemispherical bowl, the contrast between the two geometries the sole decorative statement.
Form
The lid is a low four-sided pyramid in plan and elevation: four equal isosceles triangular faces rising from a square base to meet at a flat square knob, its four faces each carrying a single vertical groove. The bowl is a full hemisphere in high-white porcelain, its walls curving continuously from a small circular foot to a wide open mouth. Seen from above, the square lid sits inside the circular rim of the bowl — a square inscribed in a circle, the oldest geometric opposition in Chinese decorative art. The meiziging glaze covers every surface in an even, semi-translucent pale green with a faint jade luminosity. No painted decoration, no applied line, no gilding of any kind.
