The Fu Lu Gold Saucer

A wide, shallow disc in deep midnight blue glaze, its surface painted with a continuous golden gourd vine that winds and branches across the cobalt in the manner of imperial decorative ware — unhurried, generous, alive with movement. The rim is traced in fine gold, and the overall form is broad and low, designed to present what rests upon it rather than compete with it. From above, the composition reads like a painting: blue ground, gold vine, white centre.
